Wintergarden Volleyball Academy launched in 2018 with its first local youth volleyball league for athletes in 4th through 6th grade. A total of 6 teams were made, with practices covering all the basic skills of the game. After round-robin league play, a championship was held where all the teams were able to put their newly learned skills on display.
In the fall of 2018, WGVBA offered the local Carrizo Springs and Crystal City area its first elite traveling volleyball program, competing under the Lone Star Region of USA Volleyball. The 3 youth teams and 1 high school team practiced weekly and competed in tournaments in San Antonio, Texas each month. Our 18s and 12s teams experienced the Mizuno Cross Court Classic in Houston, Texas, an annual prestigious tournament with attendance of elite teams from all over the country.
In 2019, WGVBA offered its Summer Boot Camp for middle school, junior high, and high school athletes. The Academy had a great turnout at each session as word of the club’s training spread.
Before the Covid-19 shutdown, WGVBA intended to offer a spring youth league. The Academy’s traveling team program also expanded to having 5 elite travel teams: 11s, 12s, 13s, 15s, and 18s. The teams practiced weekly and competed in San Antonio until spring break of 2020 when the Lone Star Region suspended all play.
We look forward to continuing to offer training to our local Wintergarden Area athletes. We have the best parents and hardworking, talented athletes, and it’s our goal to offer them the same training opportunities that many city athletes have outside of their school teams. Thank you for trusting us with your volleyball journey!
